Cerebral Folate
What is Cerebral Folate?
Cereal folate is another name for folate or vitamin B9. It plays an important role in the development of brain and nervous tissue.
Effects on Autism
People with autism have been found to have low levels of folate in their nervous system. People with autism have higher levels of antibodies that interfere with folate transport into the brain, leading to cerebral folate deficiency. Cerebral folate deficiency can lead to various neurological and developmental issues in children with ASD, including irritability, anxiety, poor sleep, gross motor problems, vision problems, and developmental delays. A type of folate supplement, folinic acid, improved ASD symptoms, including irritability, ataxia, movement disorders, and epilepsy. Supplementation has also been shown to improve verbal communication, language, and attention.
Effects on Heavy Metal Toxicity
Higher levels of folate have been shown to have a protective effect against lead and cadmium poisoning, especially in children. Eating more folate or supplementing with folate may, therefore, protect against and clear out heavy metal toxins.
